Students tell us what they love about SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM

Raissa DEL MELO BRANDAO

Dual degree France-Brazil Uberlandia
Eiffel and Brafitec Programme

I wanted to study in France so I could gain some enriching experiences through this exchange. I chose to attend SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM because of its international reputation and excellent scientific and technological resources. Also, in Brazil, I had met some students from SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM who had good things to say about the school. The city of Besançon and the surrounding area is a lovely place to live and I’ve made some good friends, which has helped me to settle in.

Mathieu CYNOBER

Dual degree in Engineering, SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM – Tokyo Denki University

For me, first and foremost SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM represents a legacy of precision with its past incarnation as the Chronometry Laboratory. But more than that, it’s all the technical knowledge and expertise in microtechnologies offered by the SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM in Besançon and in the Franco-Swiss area more generally.

It was this European dimension and the high scientific quality that initially won me over when I’d finished my preparatory course. But I soon came to appreciate the cross-disciplinary and international aspect of the training.

Having spent over three and a half years in Japan thanks to an internship year, I gained a dual French-Japanese degree (something that few of France’s grandes écoles have managed to set up with Japan), with an option focused on innovation management. The initial training at SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM really taught me qualities of adaptation and leadership and so helped me create my own business once I’d completed my studies.

Ferdinand SCHAFFER

Dual degree France-Germany
SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM/Hochschule Karlsruhe - UFA Programme

One of the reasons for my decision to study at SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM in Besançon was its close links with the Hochschule Karlsruhe. The binational curriculum provided me with a multi-disciplinary technical education of excellent quality and international focus, which is a vital asset these days.

Besançon is an historic and cultural city with lots of points of interest for students. I particularly enjoyed discovering hang-gliding in the Jura mountains and the Museum of Time in Besançon. Being close to Switzerland and Germany gives the Franche-Comté region a special economic and cultural place right at the heart of Europe.

It was also really easy to make trips to neighbouring cities, such as Dijon or Neuchâtel in Switzerland.

Marie-Anne GRELLIER

Aerospace Project Manager

SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM leads to success !

Marie-Anne Grellier is a graduate of SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM. Now working as a project manager on the future Ariane 6 and Vega C launchers, she recounts her career so far.
A real extension of the teaching at SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM
I’d only just graduated when I got the chance to join Snecma of the Safran group, looking after investments in production resources for aeroplane engine housings. I discovered what the “real” production world looks like, applying Christophe Dielemans lessons on a daily basis! Machining centres, welding and deburring robots, 3D measuring machines – investment in so many tools, adhering to precise specifications, budgets and deadlines while managing multi-disciplinary teams.

A brilliant career

I joined Snecma Propulsion Solide in Bordeaux in the same role. I dealt with other tools and other manufacturing methods, but still with the same passion for the job. The company then merged with SNPE to become Herakles and I was appointed project manager for investments in the space sector.
I changed job during my second period of maternity leave when I was approached to join the teams in charge of development programmes. I am now the project manager for the nozzle for the solid propulsion engine of the future Ariane 6 and Véga C launchers.

A commitment to the cause

I have also been appointed regional delegate for the Aquitaine branch of the “Elles bougent” organisation, which encourages young women to take up a career in industrial fields of all kinds. There are still too few female engineers !

Nandish CALCHAND

Master’s EU4M –Erasmus Mundus Programme

I joined the EU4M master’s programme because I wanted to increase my knowledge of mechatronics and find out what was happening in the microworld. As SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM is a school with a strong focus on microtechnologies, it didn’t take long to make my choice.

I’m currently studying for a PhD at SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM and taking full advantage of the expertise on offer at the Femto-ST Institute, and especially the Department of Automation and Micromechatronics.
